i used to love that game when i was a kid….. back in the 70′s >.>

I;m with Tolka on this one, randomness has to be planned. otherwise it’s just a big chaotic mess.

  5. avatar
    CC says:

(Tries to speak through the 4th wall) Yeah Tix you tell him! the audience backs you up!

  6. avatar
    The One Guy says:

@CC: I don’t know about that; I’d rather have comics of higher quality than comics of greater quantity, and of the “audience” members that have spoken up, 2/3 (Gabrielsthoughts and me) support Tolka, and only 1/3 (you) support Tix. It is a rather small sampleing, but I’m just saying not to be so certain that “the audience backs [Tix] up.”

  7. avatar
    CC says:

Shh. Tix doesn’t have to know that. It might be more funny if she believed it anyway.

  8. avatar
    Alfred says:

Careful, without a script Tolka, might feel the need someday to day a relaunch, feeling disatisfied with the product at hand. Relaunched webstripes, are they clones, reincarnations or dopplegangers of the oringal stripe?
Trust the writer, better a rewrite than a recon or a relaunch.

  9. avatar
    Alfred says:

    ops
    not to day, to do

  10. avatar
    Awaj says:

wait a second, if you’ve been following the comics Tolka does, there isn’t that much planning… (I wonder what would happen if Tolka did plan a bit more then the beginning and end of the comic…)

  11. avatar

people like patterns in fiction. A regular update schedule is one form of pattern, in the absence of one pattern people will either find one in the story itself or they’ll create their own pattern. It’s all in the conditioning. for instance, DBZ uses the same patterns throughout the series but each individual episode seems like a chaotic mess without knowledge of the current story arc or series.

  12. avatar
    Joural says:

It’s true. of course it is. After all, if you couldn’t even TRY to guess what would happen next, what would be the fun?

  13. avatar

it could be worse: we could be stuck in Chinese traffic

That mysterious avatar of yours is very creepy AJ. just sayin

Oh, and it’s good to be back myself.

Tix is right, though, it’s creapy seeing you as a guy. O_o

  20. avatar
    rockstarajw says:

Can anyone fill me in on tolka’s sexual Identity? half of you say him, and the other half say her; so does anyone know what tolka’s preference is?

  21. avatar

in RL he’s male. He’s claimed it on several occasion, although when it comes from a vixen it’s hard to believe. He just likes to draw his avatar as a female.

  22. avatar
    Awaj says:

his ustream also has a male voice to it (when Mal and Lifeforce and others don’t skype in…), I would be scared to meet a woman who sounds like he does… [maybe the sex-change operation fixed that...] speaking of which, How much longer till you ustream again Tolka? the count on the left side hasn’t changed at all for a while… :’(

  23. avatar

new challenge… 238 posts wins a shiney line art from me. (better than you think) any takers?

  28. avatar
    Alfred says:

the magical shiny new pennny, a doubleheaded coin, and the two heads are?

  29. avatar
    Some dude says:

Oh my God, the pennies! Where’ve they been all this time?

  30. avatar
    GungraveNZ says:

We forgot all about them, how could we!

  31. avatar
    Azraile says:

*helps Tix out and re-vixenates the Tolka*

    =^_^=

    hehe =p

  32. avatar
    AJ says:

99 bottles of cans on the wall… take one down, pass it around.. altogether now!

  33. avatar
    Awaj says:

*puts a shiny penny ontop of AJ’s head, and stands away from the ensuing brawl over the penny which stops the hideous song from being sung*

    that’s better

  34. avatar
    GungraveNZ says:

    *jumps in the brawl*

  35. avatar
    Alfred says:

98 bottles of cans on the wall,
eh, what is in the cans?

  36. avatar
    GungraveNZ says:

Boxes are in the cans, you have 98 bottles of caned boxes. Now whats in the boxes?

  37. avatar
    rockstarajw says:

    Pennies! ^^

  38. avatar
    The One Guy says:

So that’s where the pennies went! *Takes one down; is rather hesitant to pass it around; 97 bottles of cans on the wall.*

  39. avatar
    AJ says:

i was going to use “beer” but then i thought oh wait… some people don’t like beer… hmm.. well if it is a can.. it can be anything!
96 bottles of cans on the wall, take one down, pass it around,…

  40. avatar
    Awaj says:

/me takes another can down, and realizes that his can is filled with Unobtainium and proceeds to make a mint off of his can… (I didn’t pass it around, nor will I share the wealth…

  41. avatar
    The One Guy says:

You sold it all!? I needed some of that! *Quickly takes down the next one and looks inside* Saltwater … crap.

  42. avatar
    Alfred says:

93 bottles of cans take one down and passes it around
    and keeps the 92

  43. avatar
    sadarsa says:

    Bottled cans? O.o

  44. avatar
    AJ says:

i panicked OK!!! 91 bottles of cans on the wall.. take one down look inside and see liquid gold.. keeps said can.. and throws a grenade around.. 91 bottles on the wall!

  45. avatar
    The One Guy says:

Cool, I could use a grenade. Wait, did you pull the pin!? Hot potato time!
I’ll go ahead and take the next bottle while I’m at it. A 50 foot statue of the local plumber? How the hell did that even fit in there? I’ll take it though; it’s gotta be worth something on E-bay.

  46. avatar
    GungraveNZ says:

I’ll have to get my own bottle of cans from the wall since most people don’t seem to be sharing them around anymore. 90 bottles of cans on the wall, takes one down looks inside and run away. 89 bottles of cans on the wall!

  47. avatar

*Steals your bottles of cans in your hands*

  48. avatar
    lol says:

89 bottles of cans on the wall… 89 bottles of cans—- takes one down and passes hashbrowns around… 88 bottles of cans on the wall…

  49. avatar
    Alfred says:

88 bottles of cans on the wall–88 bottles of cans– takes one down passes it around — and Awaj intercepts and takes it in for the touchdown– 87 bottles of cans on the wall

  50. avatar
    Joural says:

87 bottles of cans on the wall, 87 bottles of cans, take one down, shoot it with a nuke, 86 bottle of cans on the wall.

  51. avatar
    The One Guy says:

86 bottles of cans on the wall, 86 bottles of cans, take one down, build a fallout shelter out of it for protection from Joural’s nuke, 85 bottles of cans on the wall.

  52. avatar
    Awaj says:

/me pulls a levers and starts singing “86 live grenades on the wall while there is still time take one down, pass it around and hope to blow up your enemy” as the bottles fall off and grenades take their places…

  53. avatar
    Alfred says:

84 bottles of cans on the floor, pick one up, look inside, hey it is a driver’s licence, 83 bottles of cans on the floor

  54. avatar
    AJ says:

resets the lever with replaces all the grenades with cans agian… 2,000,000 cans… takes one down. looks inside, and laughs manically, and then breaks the lever. 1999999 bottles of cans on the wall

  55. avatar
    Awaj says:

/me grabs a bunch of shot guns and lines them up facing the wall in a way that he can fire them all at once and fires… all the booze empties out of 1999900 cans… leaving only 99 bottles on the wall, takes one down, passes it around, 98 bottles of root beer on the wall

  56. avatar
    GungraveNZ says:

*takes the 1999900 damaged cans to the recycling center to cash them in*

  57. avatar
    The One Guy says:

*Grabs a shotgun to get things back down to 82 cans, and promptly misses the entire wall. Uses a crossbow instead.* 82 bottles of cans on the wall.

  58. avatar
    Awaj says:

you know what? I’m sick of this… /me looks closely at the remaining cans, realizes that they are soup cans, takes them all down and hands them out to the homeless

now, let’s bring out the root beer keg

  59. avatar
    AJ says:

takes a can and takes some root beer from the keg.. much better!

  60. avatar
    AJ says:

and then notices that the cans are growing back…..

  61. avatar
    rockstarajw says:

Awwww…Hiatus AGAIN. god damnit. I am NEVER going to see regualr updates again. :’(

  62. avatar
    Alfred says:

But, you get to read the wonderful comments, about the bottles of cans, 100 glasses, take one down, fill it with root beer and pass it around, and people are dopping shiny pennies in it!

  63. avatar
    jmkool says:

    ROOT BEER KEG!!!

  64. avatar
    GungraveNZ says:

  65. avatar
    joural says:

SPY CHECK! *Pulls out flame thrower, shoots everyone, in the process evaporating the rootbeer* No spies!

    *dashes off, laughing maniacally*

Sooo… goal of 103 posts again?

  66. avatar
    The One Guy says:

*Looks down at numerous third degree burns* Meh, only a flesh wound, but you’ll pay for that root beer!

  67. avatar
    Awaj says:

/me crawls out from behind AJ, who was used as an alien shield (I would have said human, but we all know that’s not the case…) and proceeds to take revenge on the root beer by snaping his fingers… he watches as a few squirrels in ninja outfits parachute down with a long bungee cord and attaches the cord to Juoural’s underwear, or equivalent, and proceeds to give him the world’s largest wedgie…

  68. avatar

finds a penny picks it up and drops it immediatley cause its way to hot…

  69. avatar
    rockstarajw says:

Thanks people. now I want to go to an A&W place and get some real keg root beer.

  70. avatar
    joural says:

*pulls out a weird device, and hits a button. tiny charges detonate, and Awaj is suddenly hit by catapulting squirrels, as I unhook the cord* just TRY ME! I’LL GET YOU WITH ELECTRIC NINJA DEATH!

  71. avatar
    AJ says:

wait.. they really do have keg of root beer?

  72. avatar
    joural says:

*shrug* probably. A&W is the best fast food place EVAR!

  73. avatar
    rockstarajw says:

    Yeah, at A&W

  74. avatar
    AJ says:

    um… ??Electric NINJA death???

  75. avatar
    LockeZ says:

Man. Even the filler comics are on hiatus. What the hell.

Tolka, as a reader of over three years, I must say: if you cannot even be arsed to finish filler comics, you need to seriously evaluate why the hell you run a webcomic at all. You clearly either dread touching it, or have way better things to do. You should just shut the site down.

  76. avatar
    Alfred says:

Hey, it is a hobby, not a business, there are lots of good sites on hiatus, either endure or raise enough money in donations that the artist can quit the day job and do this full time.
I lack the money, so wait for the nice presents to be delivered on the web site.
Great artists tend to be tormented, tortured souls, (according to folklore) the problems that Tolka is having, means great work in the future (I hope).

  77. avatar
    sadarsa says:

i wouldnt go so far as to say “great artist” she’s good definatly… but honestly, i like the story’s better. If you think about the story line thus far, you could sit down and hash it out in about 10-15 minutes (writing it novel like instead of comic) *shrug* i suppose that’s why i prefer reading the short storys i find on the web instead of wainting weeks for a character to say a few sentences.

Lol but plz dont misunderstand this as complaining =P im just saying why i prefer storys to comics

  78. avatar
    Alfred says:

okay, where are the short story sites?
I kind of have been using each site to link to others, the wotch and order of the stick were my initial leads to web comics, what search items do you use for the short stories?
and of all the webcomics on haitus, the serendipity of this site for the web is fantastic. and why is wikipedia better for checking spelling than an online dictionary?? wikipedia will give the correct spelling of serendipity, where a dictionary just says seriendipty not found.

  79. avatar

    fanfiction.net
    writing.com
I haven’t bothered looking for others unless you count
    deviantart.com

  80. avatar
    The One Guy says:

Personally, I prefer comics to short stories. This is partially because the visuals enhance the story and are capable of showing things well in one panel that would take up a tot of words to portray and partially because comics tend to more likely to include humor than short stories, but the major reasons are that webcomics are faster to read through, you can follow a webcomics updating, whereas in a short story you’re more likely to read through it once and then you’re done, and to me it seems like it is easier for an amateur to create a good comic than a good story.
This, of course, is not to put down short stories, which I fully support, but simply to explain how I prefer comics.

  81. avatar
    Alfred says:

Mark Twain said,” Give me 30 days and I can give you a 3 page story, give me 3 days and I can give you a 30 day story”
Writting good short stories is hard,O’Henry is/was good, a few of his stories darker than you would think from some of the adaptions.
Comics are under the restraint of saying and doing something in a few panels.
They are similar if you cmpare like quality to like quality.
Sturgeon’s law 90% of everything is crap.
I have been able to find comics on the web of good quality, worth rereading, and after a long haitus, it is useful. I have not found new good short stories, in the early part of the 21st centuary.
I do not know if it is easier to do good comics, but they are medium more likely to be read.

  82. avatar
    Alfred says:

It is easier to get an audience for a comic than for a short story, and the web comic people are telling (linking) about other good comics.
short stories lack anything like tower comics to promote the stories.
Gutenberg project, Baen books and other sites offer free books online, and downloadable. But, they do not tell people of the other sites.

  83. avatar

wowio… the best combination of both comics and short stories available on the web.

Oh and not to knock Sturgeon, but people that assume 90% of everthing is crap are usually incappable of seeing the 10% of anything that isn’t.

  84. avatar
    AWAJ says:

the other way to think about it is that the people who say 90% of everything is horrible are either extremely rich, or they aren’t far sighted (referencing the song Far Sighted by Five Iron Frenzy). Poor people over in 3rd world countries, though may not have all their needs met, they have more joy then many of us who are lucky to have any sort of internet on a regular basis.

  85. avatar
    Alfred says:

Oh yeah, thanks for the links to the stories and the previous links to other comics.

  86. avatar
    rockstarajw says:

I hate it when people try to apply ‘laws’ to entertainment. I never have understood why people can’t seem to get that its all about personal opinion. there is no good and bad to art (whether it be literature or visual or both) there is just art. That being said, its sad to see this one go. it obviously had a lot of followers, ones willing to donate money so the artist could get better equipment, only to see the comic die. It might not be Tolka’s fault, because there is life outside of the webcomic, but it is still sad to see such a well told story die. (in my definition of dead anyway. if he can’t update the fillers then its dead. although it would be nice to be notified that he has no time, or is in a position where he can’t update)

  87. avatar
    AWAJ says:

I was told by one of my professors that technically, it’s wrong to say someone is doing something wrong (of course that was in relation to mixing audio, not art, but same concept applies, people who are audio engineers are just as much of an artist as Tolka and others who do visual and textural stuff…) That being said, this comic is not dead yet!!!

  88. avatar
    The One Guy says:

Well, I’m not going to give up the idea of different levels of quality in art (Would you rank the Lord of the Rings as on the same level as Troll 2?), but that said, it’s not too much of a stretch to say that a great deal of the “90%” which is crap is only “crap” because you’re just not interested in it.

  89. avatar
    The One Guy says:

Oh, and AWAJ, music is art. Here were are talking about webcomics as art, you’re saying music, which is more purely art than comics will ever be, isn’t?

  90. avatar
    AJ says:

    BACK TO FUNNY:!!!:!:!:!:
look… a teenage mutant jedi turtle!

  91. avatar
    Alfred says:

and he is passing around the 75th bottle of a can!

  92. avatar
    joural says:

    COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT CHECK!

*Pulls out a flamethrower, which then cooks the turtle*

  93. avatar
    joural says:

… I’m a bit disappointed this isn’t being posted in. but, I’ll just wait. Oh well.

  94. avatar
    AWAJ says:

    Turtle soup anyone?

I was just saying two things about music… one being that music is just as much a form of art as web comics, or paintings, or sculptures…. the other being the thing my professor in college told me about how people shouldn’t say I’m a horrible sound tech applies to web comics as well, everyone has their own style.

  95. avatar
    Alfred says:

turtle soup with A&W root beer, I drink the stuff, but have not eaten their food in years, out here A&W stores are combined with KFC, and I like that orignal stlye chicken.
Hear about the rich chicken? made a fortune selling countryfried colonel.

  96. avatar
    The One Guy says:

Wow, that chicken must put a lot of money into his/her colonel farm, what with the human breeding and military training and all.

  97. avatar
    rockstarajw says:

Random song lyrics time! name the song [and no web searching, thats cheating] and get a cookie!
